Salt and Soil

CQ Contemporary Artists commenced almost 50 years ago, with a studio in the Walter Reid Cultural Centre Rockhampton.

The original aim of the group was to produce art that was inventive, modern, and an expression of the artist. Most regional artists at the time were following the traditional realist style. However, under the tutelage of Mervyn Moriarty, the founder of the Flying Arts School, artists embraced a whole new way of seeing and expressing themselves.  This is still our vision today.

Many of our artists are award winning, and help strengthen and support the local arts community.

CQCA embrace the principles of community, cooperation, and creativity, and encourage other members of the community to join us and enjoy the enriching experience of sharing the art journey.

Salt and Soil is a collection of work reflecting a vision of Central Queensland and the individual exploration of the theme "Salt and Soil". The exhibition is a celebration of Central Queensland's unique landscapes - where the rich, fertile soils of the land meet the salty breath of the ocean.
